Really Bad Ideas

Members of the Christian Right seem to believe that they are under attack by a variety of other people, including atheists, freethinkers, etc. The curious thing about this thinking is that these other populations generally leave religious people alone, unless they feel attacked themselves. So it seems more likely that the Christian Right started the culture war. but in the manner of a group with a persecution complex, the Christian Right ignores its own provocations (or more likely views them as righteous), while interpreting the resistance from their victims as denial of God.

This is delusional thinking at its worst. No amount of evidence will convince the righteous that they are in the wrong about this. Personally, I think the mindless attacks can be likened to "hate crimes" even if they don't currently fall under such legal guidelines.
